How to make a crocodile smile

To my dear crocodile,
I wish that you would smile.
I don’t like it when you frown,
It makes me feel down.
But when you show off your teeth, so pearly white,
I just know that everything is going to be alright.

I wish I could cheer you up, make you happy.
I could offer you some food so you can get snappy.
Would you like some fish, something you can catch in the water?
Or I could find some animals on land that you can slaughter.
Or maybe it is just that you are lonely,
You don’t like being the one and only.
I could find you a friend, someone just like you.
You could laugh, play, and form your own little crew.

Oh wait, is that a smile I am starting to see?
Have my rhymes and rambles bought out the joy in thee?
That’s all I wanted, it fills me with such glee!

Well then, I guess my job here is done.
But wait, your smile is looking menacing, I don’t like this one.
You’re making me nervous, perhaps I should run.
There is a glint in your eye, and I don’t think it’s the sun.
I start to quake,
To worry and shake,
I’m wracking my brains for where I put my gun.
I don’t think I want you to smile anymore.
Ignore everything I have said. Pretend I am just a bore!
I am just going to back away, slowly retreat, get out of this situation, and run for that door!
